Apartment Review for Sofis Properties - Pittsburgh, PA

We found an apartment in Dormont from Sofis Properties posted on Craigslist and decided to take a look. We had been shopping for apartments and were not very impressed with what we had found on Craigslist so far, so we were not expecting much. We ended up loving the apartment we looked at and began renting. So far, we do not have a single complaint. Everything promised before renting (new carpeting, new paint, etc) was taken care of as expected, and even the smallest things we have called about were taken care of immediately. Diana runs Sofis Properties and is very nice and accomodating. She likes to keep in touch with tenants and provides her cell phone and e-mail as methods to get in touch with her. She responds to e-mails every day, and responds to calls immediately. Diana is very particular, which can go both ways. The apartments are in great shape, and any issues are handled immediately. She looks into every tenant (i.e., credit check, etc), which is great, as it means we live with other friendly tenants who have jobs and respect each other. At the same time, she is very "by the book" so bending any rules in the lease (e.g., making a modification to the apartment, having a pet, etc) is out of the question for the most part. This is understandable and certainly helps maintain the quality of the units, but at the same time things do change in peoples lives and living in the same unit with no modifications for an extended period of time is difficult. Some wiggle room could be permitted for good tenants. The apartment is in Dormont, which means everyone has to park on the street, but a small lot in the alley that runs behind the apartment is provided for parking, and we have never had an issue finding a spot close by. The apartments are well-lit and safe, and we have never had an problem with the people living nearby and have never felt threatened. The tenants look out for each other which helps. The apartment itself is great. It is a 1-bedroom but there is a lot of space and we have actually had a hard time filling it. We are given a storage unit and the washer and dryer are in the buildings basement. We only share with 3 other tenants in our building, and have never had a problem using the washer and dryer. However, we are permitted to use a nearby buildings washer and dryer if ours is in use. The only small issue is that the doors leading to the hallway are pretty thin, and we hear people coming in and out, checking their mail, and talking, and I am sure they can hear us talking in the living room. Noise from the unit above us is minimal. There have been a few times where the other tenants would party outside late at night during the summer, and this did get annoying. It never interfered with sleeping, but sometimes coming home with 20 people outside of your apartment is awkward and annoying. Overall, I can not say enough about the apartment. It has been great, and Diana and the maintenance have been nothing but helpful. Highly recommended!
