Looks Nice on the Outside, But...
Review Date: 4/2/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
My fiance and I were interested in an apartment in 2008. We decided to take a look at Greenbriar since they were affordable and were located conveniently in Greentree, making getting to the city for work very easy. When we arrived, the staff seemed very nice, if not a little chain-smoking-New-York-landlordish. They took us to a building where they had two 1-bedroom apartments for rent. The buildings looked okay... garden-style apartments with yards that seemed well-maintained. To my surprise, though, we actually went down a floor to see the units. So we would essentially be living in the basement. The washer/dryer and storage area was right next to the unit. Just what I'd want - listening to everyone do their laundry while sleeping/working/etc. The first unit was a disgrace. The carpet and walls were destroyed, and the entire place smelled like cat urine. The woman showing us the apartment said "you can tell this person had a cat". We were like "REALLY!?!?!?!" She said that the place would be renovated before we moved in. We said "that's okay, this would be out of the question," while wondering to ourselves "why on earth would you show anyone this?" We went to the second unit which was much more presentable. The living room and bedroom were an okay size, but the kitchen and bathroom were small and very tacky-looking. The closet doors in the bedroom were damaged, and other areas looked like they still needed some work - not a sign of good maintenance. Parking would be an absolute nightmare. People parked in lots and right on the street. We looked on a weekend, and the area looked very cramped; I would not want to park during the winter and walk half a mile to my unit if I happened to get home later than everyone else. Overall, there was very little to get excited about, and we ended up finding a great place in Dormont that wasn't part of a huge apartment complex. I guess if you had no other options, Greenbriar would be okay, but there are much better places in the South Hills. |
