Apartment Review for Ed Hayes - Pittsburgh, PA

I rented an apartment from this man in another part of Pittsburgh. Despite repeatedly reminding him of the date of the move & the need for a written agreement, he did not provide one when I moved in. He had promised me he would have it ready when I was moving my stuff in. He too $ 1500 as security & first months rent before I moved in. On the day of the move he was still using the shower & bathroom, the house was filthy, the basment & closet by the entrance of the house was dank & stinking. The kitchen sink was not set up. there was a hole in the batroom wall where the mirror is supposed to be & there was mold there & all around the house. The floor was dirty. There were cobwebs & insects all around the house. He still had his stuff in the basement which he was gonna rent to me & the garage was full of his stuff & locked. When I pointed this out to him & aske him to cancel the (verbal) lease & return my money, he refused to do so. I had to file an incient report with the police, ask him not to enter the house till I vacated it & take pictures as evidence. i called in my next door neighbor to see the filth & shambles I was handed by this guy. I then enquired with the local municipal office about the property. This guy had not even taken a clearence from them (mandatory in Allegheny Co) to rent out the place & I was told his rental was illegal. I am in process of filing charges against him & getting a new lease. The Building Inspector Office is going to initiate charges against him for violating county rules. Be aware of anyone with the name Ed Hayes or Edward Hayes in Pittsburgh PA renting out to you. Juturn around & walk away.
