I took this apartment as a sublet for the summer.I should have realized from the start that Herbert Halsband Properties would be a hassle, but I really had no idea.To start things off, they charge well over $100 to fill out the paperwork for the sublease. When asked why they charged this exorbiant fee, they said there were many forms to fill out, sign, and mail. What are they printed on, gold?

The condition of the apartments here are fair. The windows on my apartment appear to be the original from the building. There are no screens and they are very drafty. When I moved in they were sealed shut with newspapers. The stove and refrigerator and ancient and do not work well.My fridge cannot get as cold as needed and the freezer only gets down to about twenty-five degrees. The kitchen cabinets are in poor shape and are in need of repair. The kitchen has new flooring and there is recent carpet in the apartment. But there is radiator heating and no air conditioning. Most of the apartments do not even have ceiling fans.

Maintenance is horrible. If they come at all they come unannounced and enter and exit as they please.Upon moving in I noted that there was a guard on the window leading to the fire escape. It had a Masterlock on it so I noted it in my movein conditions. When I arrived home several days later I noticed that the blind on the window was bent. The next day the top of the Masterlock was laying on the floor in the kitchen. There was no note, no phone call to say anyone was coming, just a chunk of metal left on the floor.I also had the handle on the hot water in the tub fall off.I called maintenance and it took them three days to come and replace the handle. You try to take a shower by turning on the hot water with a screwdriver for three days. When they did come out, they once again entered and exited without notice and replaced only the hot water handle so there is now mismatched handles in the tub.Put that on the real esate brochure.

The office staff and answering service are deplorable. If you call and leave a message with the answering staff, you can expect to be called back.....never.Don't even bother.I have called several times recently and have never been called back. When I reached Sheri at the office today, she was curt and rude.I was calling in regard to one of the bars on the inside of the fridge that had falled off almost a month ago.I had placed several calls to try to have this repaired.I last called on July 23 and was told the part was ordered.I was told in my conversation today that they received the part today.I can expect to have this fixed after I move out.

The grass is cut regularly. There is always trash in the yard and the bin for periodicals/junk mail is never emptied. The dumpster is filled to the brim many days as well. The outside of the building is not cared for at all.Even less than the inside. There is another building identical to this one two doors down owned by another landlord. It has been sandblasted, cleaned up, and had all it's windows replaced.I assume the inside is just as nice.If you like this neighborhood and the building, move to that one.Don't move here.

The other people in the building are quiet and usually friendly.I have only had problems with noise once and it was quickly resolved with no help from the landlord. The location is good, here in Bloomfield, but like I said move to the building a few doors down.

In conclusion, you should not move here.Do not move to any Halsband property.I have no idea where my monthly $485 (+ electric) goes or anyone else's rent goes. Not back into this building. The office is rude and unwilling to help. The place is poorly cared for and the appliances need replaced.I have two weeks left until I move and I am never coming back. Not here, or anywhere else that the name Halsband Properties is.I suggest you do the same.

Soon to be Halsband-free,

James
